Goa on ₹245 a night: my budget stay
My most-commented reel, explained: what a ₹245 stay in North Goa really looks like, how to find one, and who should skip it.
By Vanshika Tanwani

"What ₹245 gets you in Goa" became my most-commented reel ever. Almost a hundred comments, and most of them were some version of "where is this?!" and "is it safe?". So here's the full story: what a stay that cheap actually looks like, how to find one, and who it's for.

My stay was a budget, hostel-style stay in North Goa, and ₹245 was the price from my reel. At that kind of price you're paying for a bed, not a room. Here's what to expect from a stay like this, and what not to:
- Usually included: a bed in a shared dorm, a locker, shared washrooms, Wi-Fi and a common area where everyone hangs out.
- Usually not included: privacy, AC in every dorm, room service, or silence at 2 am.
- Always check: whether the price includes taxes, whether there's a female-only dorm, and the check-in time.
Prices like this depend on the season, the day of the week and how early you book. Treat ₹245 as proof that it's possible, not as a fixed rate.
Why North Goa works on a budget
North Goa has beaches, cafés, nightlife and a lot of hostels close together, and that competition keeps prices low. I went in the monsoon: grey skies, big waves, fewer crowds. Off-season is when budget stays get really cheap, and honestly the moody beach photos are a bonus.

View the postHow to find a stay this cheap
- 1Travel off-season and on weekdays. Monsoon and mid-week dates are the cheapest.
- 2Book a dorm bed, not a room. Filter for female-only dorms if that makes you more comfortable.
- 3Compare the booking apps with the stay's own website or Instagram. Booking direct is sometimes cheaper.
- 4Look at the final price. The headline number doesn't always include taxes or fees.
- 5Read reviews from the last three months. Look for cleanliness, safety, staff and noise, not just the vibe in the photos.
- 6Check the location. Walkable to the beach saves money; far away means paying for a scooter or cabs every day.
Is it safe for girls?
I always get asked this. What I look for, and what I'd tell any friend:
- Choose a female-only dorm or a stay with lots of recent reviews from solo women travellers.
- Lockers are non-negotiable. Bring your own lock.
- A 24-hour reception or staff on site matters more than a pretty pool.
- Share your live location with someone at home, and keep your own plans for getting back at night.
- Never leave your drink unattended, anywhere, ever.
Where the money really goes
The bed is the cheapest part of a Goa trip. Budget separately for:
- Getting around: most people rent a scooter; check the rental terms and carry your licence.
- Food: beach shacks and cafés vary a lot, so check menus before you sit down.
- Nights out: Thalassa was on my list for the belly dance night (it's in my tags). Evenings like that are not ₹245 evenings, so plan for them.
- Experiences: I did a boat day too ("sad songs but on yacht please"). Lovely, but it's a separate budget line.

Perfect for: solo travellers, friend groups, anyone who'll be out all day and only needs a clean bed and a shower.
Skip it if: you're a light sleeper, you need privacy, or you're travelling as a couple and want a room to yourselves. Spend a little more; it's worth it.
A budget day in North Goa
- Morning: a beach walk and a coconut. Free, and the softest light of the day.
- Afternoon: a long lunch at a beach shack or café, then rest through the hottest (or rainiest) hours.
- Evening: sunset on the sand, then one planned night out, not three.
- Night: the hostel common area. Half the fun of a budget stay is the people you meet there.
Keep some cash for small shacks and parking, and agree on a scooter or cab price before you set off.
What I packed
Monsoon Goa is easy to dress for: denim shorts, a cami, slides or flats and a coconut in hand (literally my look). Add one strapless mini or a slip dress for the boat or a night out. Pack light: hostel lockers are small and you'll be carrying everything up the stairs yourself.
Budget trips are not about suffering, babe. Save on the bed, spend on the memories.

Questions, answered
Is a ₹245 a night stay in Goa real?
It was for Vanshika: a budget, hostel-style stay in North Goa. Prices change with the season, dates and how early you book, so treat ₹245 as what is possible off-season rather than a fixed rate.
Is a budget hostel in Goa safe for solo girls?
It can be if you choose carefully: pick a female-only dorm or a stay with many recent reviews from solo women, use a locker with your own lock, prefer 24-hour staff, share your live location and never leave a drink unattended.
Which part of Goa is best on a budget?
North Goa has the most hostels, cafés and beaches close together, which keeps stay prices low, especially in the monsoon and on weekdays.
